How to Get Started
Emerging Innovators
What You Need to Know
Rules, Terms, and Conditions
The Emerging Innovator Awards, powered by Horn Entrepreneurship at the University of Delaware, recognize the top 100 high school students worldwide whose innovative efforts are making a positive impact. The program celebrates young changemakers committed to turning ideas into action and provides them with recognition and visibility. All submissions are reviewed by the Awards leadership team, which reserves the right to interpret or amend program rules at its discretion.
PRELIMINARY ROUND
Applicants must complete and submit all of the following components through the official application platform by the posted deadline. Incomplete or late submissions will not be considered. All materials are final as of the submission deadline.
1. Candidate Profile
Applicants must provide personal and contact information, along with an unofficial transcript to verify enrollment and good standing at a high school institution.
- This information will be used solely to confirm eligibility and for direct communication from the Emerging Innovator Awards team.
- Transcripts and personal details will not be shared with judges or considered during evaluation.
2. Leadership Impact Video
Applicants must submit a pre-recorded video that:
- Introduces the student and their work.
- Explains what motivates their innovation and impact.
- Is no longer than 2:00 minutes in length.
- Is uploaded to a publicly accessible URL (e.g., YouTube or Vimeo). Videos may be unlisted but must be viewable without a password or login.
Note: Videos exceeding the time limit or inaccessible due to privacy settings may result in disqualification.
3. Letter of Recommendation
Applicants must request one letter of recommendation that meets the following criteria:
- Written by a non-relative adult (e.g., teacher, mentor, coach, employer).
- Addresses the applicant’s character, leadership, and impact.
Submission Process:
- Applicants will provide the name and email address of their recommender in the candidate application.
- Recommenders will receive an email with instructions and a unique link to upload the letter directly to the application platform.
- Letters must be uploaded by the posted deadline.
Important: It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure the recommender receives the link and submits the letter by the submission deadline. Applications are considered incomplete until a letter of recommendation is submitted.
SEMIFINAL ROUND
The Top 100 Semifinalists will advance to the Semifinal Round where they will be asked to provide written responses to a series of questions. Judges will evaluate these responses in conjunction with Preliminary Round materials when selecting Finalists.
Written Response Requirements
- Each response will have a defined word count range.
- Responses must reflect the individual’s own work and experience.
- Responses must be submitted through the official application platform by the posted deadline.
- Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.
Application Process
- A week prior to the Semifinal Round deadline, all Semifinalists will receive an email with a brief set of questions.
- Semifinalists will then go into the application platform to submit answers to each question within the specified word count.
